We had a very nice, fairly mellow Fourth of July weekend. We camped outside in a tent on our lawn, and got to hook up with all the cousins at the cabin.
Unfortunately, Gizmo took a somersaulting tumble down some metal stairs leading down to the river, and landed amongst the boulders. He bruised his right temple, right shoulder, left elbow and left hip. But all he complained of was his swollen left thumb. 4 hours later, as we lay down for bed, the thumb still ailed him, and he awoke to pain in it this morning.
So we hit up the doc, and xrays revealed a fracture at the base of the thumb, through his growth plate
. It was all in alignment and otherwise looked good, but we'll need to get a cast again this summer to ensure nothing affects it as it heals, as the growth plate is particularly vulnerable.
Both parents' first thought? Waterslides now! Before the cast is put on! But with the splint in place, we wound up thinking the better of it.
